MAC Cosmetics and a Hollywood icon have given us another reason to look forward to fall, besides boots and heavy knit sweaters. I told you about the MAC Marilyn Monroe collection awhile back, but further details have emerged! I’ve been waiting with bated breath for information about this release, and I wanted to share what I now know with you. The collection is said to be around 30 pieces, and is set for its U.S. release this October. From what I’ve seen, the packaging looks chic and sultry, much like the woman who inspired it. What we have to look forward to this fall is as follows:

Eye Shadow $15.00, Limited Edition

  • Preferred Blonde (Veluxe Pearl): Pale champagne beige
  • How to Marry (Veluxe Pearl): Soft white
  • Showgirl (Veluxe Pearl): Dark blue grey

  • Flaming Rose (Cream): True red

On my wish list is the Forever Marilyn Beauty Powder for sure, and most likely a powder blush, Dazzleglass and a few lipsticks. The eyeshadows sound tempting since veluxe pearl is my favorite MAC eyeshadow formulation, but I’ll wait to swatch those in person and let you know my thoughts. Are you wanting anything already? Do tell! If so, I suggest getting to your MAC counter as soon as this collection hits stores, because these will sell fast not only to cosmetics connoisseurs but Marilyn fans and collectors. Make a list, and check it twice.

Beauty Tip: Concealer

I’ve been asked a great deal lately about concealer and how to keep it from settling into fine lines and wrinkles. I have a sneaking suspicion that we have all succumbed to concealers that claim to be crease-resistant, which they never are. Our faces naturally move throughout the day (unless you’re Joan Rivers) and our makeup moves with it, causing creasing and shifting in products we applied. There are, however, ways to minimize the alteration in appearance of the products we put on.

As far as concealer goes, my number one tip has to do with eyeshadow primer. Most brands, both drugstore and high-end, have come out with many different eyeshadow primers in many different formulas. Depending on your skin type, you may favor one primer’s texture over another.

My primer of choice is Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I like this particular product because it provides a smooth base for eyeshadow to cling to, which increases its longevity. While the primer allows the eyeshadow to stick, it also allows for it to blend easily which not all primers do. The same concept applies to concealer. There are many primers on the market, though, and a very affordable one is put out by Palladio which can be found at Ulta, Sally Beauty Supply and select Bed Bath and Beyond stores.

Before beginning, always make sure the fragile skin under your eyes is well moisturized, but don’t use too much product or anything you put on top of it will appear cakey and unnatural. When applying your primer, don’t limit your canvas to just your eyelid. Instead, carry it down under your eye and into the inner corner where you see any darkness. Blend it in with the warmth of your finger tips and let it set for a minute, then apply your corrector and concealer as you normally would. After they are blended tear a tissue in half and use one sheet to gently blot the under eye area. This will remove any excess oil while leaving the pigment. An oily finish under the eye attracts light which brings attention to anything you’re trying to conceal, while mattifying the area does the opposite. It avoids catching the light and helps to direct attention elsewhere on the face.

Finish by setting everything with a minimal amount of powder using a fluffy blending brush rather than a sponge. These steps will noticeably increase the wear of your concealer and keep it looking fresh and flawless all day.

Bobbi Brown Sparkling Nudes Collection- Spring 2012

While the beauty/fashion industry promotes collections seasons in advance, here is a collection for you to peruse that is available right now. Bobbi Brown is the queen of top quality neutrals, and in her spring collection she puts a new spin on the traditional browns and champagnes.

The Sparkling Nudes collection includes four new shades of Sparkle Eyeshadow, a Brightening Finishing Powder and Brightening Lip Gloss.

The Sparkle Eyeshadows impart a subtle shimmer and shine on the lids that will brighten any eye color. I haven’t swatched any of the shadows myself yet, but Bobbi Brown’s shades are notoriously pigmented and buttery smooth.

Shades include:

  • Silver Moon- Light silvery glitter
  • Mica- Deep heather grey
  • Ballet- Light pink glitter
  • Sunlight- Warm golden glitter

The Brightening Finishing Powder features six shades that blend together to give the skin a luminous and healthy appearance. It boasts a silky texture and has skin perfecting qualities that give the complexion a soft-focus finish. Its ingredients include mulberry, grape, Scutelleria and Gentian Root extracts, and it is said to feel very light-weight on the skin. Its sturdy compact makes on-the-go application a snap.

Brightening Lip Gloss:

  • Lilac Pearl- Lavender pink with pearl
  • Pink Opal- Pink with opalescent pearl
  • Pink Lilac- Pale icy pink violet
