Sephora + PANTONE

I’m not usually one for a bold lip. Let alone anything orange. I usually stick to a pinkish nude or a classic red. But when it was announced that Sephora was teaming up with Pantone to create a collection surrounding this year’s It color, I decided to venture out of my comfort zone.

Pantone announced Tangerine Tango as the color for 2012 in December of last year. Plans were previously underway for the collaboration with Sephora, which has recently debuted in stores. I had the chance to get my hands on the lipstick and blush duo, and they did not disappoint.

I had never before been drawn to the makeup put out under the Sephora brand, but this packaging catches the eye without even knowing what you’re looking for. It’s undoubtedly gorgeous, bright and sturdy. Quality is not lacking here, nor is modernity. The boxes are not flimsy, and they feature a white base donned with Pantone’s shades of orange.

Upon first glance, the lipstick immediately reminded me of that of Tom Ford. The lipstick is contained in square white packaging with a silver magnetic closure. The color itself is just like its name, a creamy tangerine. While it admittedly looks intimidating and  bright in the tube, it is surprisingly wearable when applied to lips. It’s a gorgeous shade of orange/red that is unlike anything else in my collection. If you’d like to tone it down, apply it with your finger to give more of a stain look to the lips. You can also apply a concealer before the lipstick to mute the color a bit, or put a nude gloss on top. It is selling for $18.

The blush duo is undoubtedly gorgeous and nearly impossible to pass up. You get two different shades that make up 11 grams of product, not a bad buy. One shade is a matte peachy orange, and the other is a brighter orange with golden shimmer throughout. The brighter shade is slightly similar to NARS’ Orgasm, but has stronger shimmer and applies darker. Both shades are silky smooth and blend easily into the skin, giving a luminous and natural flush. They succeed in brightening the complexion without being overbearing. The packaging is interesting and fun; it has a clear swivel closure that’s also magnetic.

The Sephora + PANTONE line is exciting and I’m looking forward to many more years of this collaboration. Head over to your local Sephora to get a look at the rest of the line which includes another blush, eyeshadow quad, lip gloss set, nail polish set, eyelash curler, makeup bag and more. If you’re a VIB at Sephora (Very Important Beauty Insider) you should have received a coupon for 15% off your purchase March 29-April 6.
